Math Nerd Quilt

So the "Math Nerd Quilt" ©Denise Bevard 2012, is coming along. Seven more strips to piece and add, then borders. Should have pattern in the store by the end-of-the-month (I have to quilt the top for the cover art)

It is draped across my couch, under it on the left are finished-on my couch-granddaughter tent quilts :-); on the right, on in the quilting hoop, and one waiting..but they will probably both get bumped to get this one done.
It is called the Math Nerd Quilt because it is based on the Fibionacci sequence...except you can't make a "zero" piece, thought about using black, but just didn't sing then. The green will be the inside border and the orange the outside border.

I love batiks!

This is an Abbey Lane Bag by Abbey Lane Quults that I made for my daughter for her Birthday--one of the gifts I couldn't show before. But sincce today was her birthday, it's ok now. her favorite color is bright green and she loves BOLD colors!

She also got a strip tube ruler for some new quilting adventure fun.

So off to work on another strip before lights out. Class tomorrow night... Happy quilting!

Do you cut one project at a time?

I don't. I don't particularly like the cutting out part. So I cut a bunch then sew a bunch. These two pics are the next set of projects cut...

I liked the way this "Peek-a-Boo Bag" by Terri Strats from Sweet Treasures went together. As almost always, I made a few customizations to the pattern, but really would be fine on its own for someone that doesn't like to customize things. The painters tape in the finished picture is hiding the customization, as it is a gift...

Lined Dice Bags: yeah when I am not sewing/quilting, I am a game geek-board/role playing and xbox/computer. My Orks are currently waring against some Space Marines...

Flat Construction

Constructing quilted shapes flat, so there is a one piece lining can be easy, and sometimes not...

I changed the pattern for the second one, much faster.

I worked on and finished some other gifts I can't show (they read my blog)..

By the way, I have decided that I LOVE my 4D Embroidery software, and can see the probable need (ok--really is a want--maybe) to move to 5D...

I am going to go work on cutting the rest of the next pattern and then proofing...its a Bali quilt--yum yum. Might have pics by this weekend. Depends on the monkey wrenches that come my way...

More gifts

So I have been working on Christmas presents and birthday presents --here are two--the rest are still secret...

I am also still quilting the Wounded Warrior Quilt.

The "Easy 7" pattern will hit the store shelf this week at Sierra Sewing in Reno---will let you who are not in Reno know when it is on the web-site ready to order.

Perfecting seam ripping...

In both Saturday's and last night's Thursday beginning quilting classes I have talked about seam ripping, as well as done some. In class I try whenever possible to seam rip the student's errors so they have more time to sew.

I tell them that we all make errors from time to time, a wiggly seam...not paying attention and putting right side to wrong side when you are supposed to be right side to right side, or--putting a quilt square together  WRONG:

It should in in fact look like the below block
Which goes into the below Block of the Month...which proves what I have also said--I did not perfect my seam ripping skills on my students work. I was well qualified before I started teaching :-)

Above is a pillowcase sitting on top of a little purse in progress--yes, I am working on Christmas presents already :-)  When do you start your Christmas presents? Do you listen to Christmas music while you work on Christmas presents?

Sat night Pillow

Saturday was another beginning quilt class at Sierra Sewing in Reno. I really love teaching. I love watching other people discover their inner quilter.

So after class I came home and made this pillow cover:

I also worked on some Christmas presents, a birthday present and my next quilt pattern (I am undecided on the name yet). And some dice bags. Will be off to work on the dice bags some more pretty quickly.Lots of projects in the fire.

Christmas presents can't be shown, birthday present after the birthday  :-)

Reno's Quilt Expo is next week--Yeah!! If you stop by Sierra Sewing's booth--tell them I sent you!

Well, off to answer some mails and then to sew...

Charity quilt--ready to baste

So you all know I have been working on another charity quilt. This one has been for a charity near and dear  to my heart. It has gone through a few iterations, but this is the design I finally chose. This was the quilt being born on graph paper from my earlier post.

This quilt will be auctioned to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project (WWP). The details of the auction (besides all the proceeds going to WWP) are still being worked out. I will be hand quilting it so there is some time left to iron out the details. I will be sure to let you all know. Here it is on the floor--soon as I am done I will baste 'er up... This is somewhat of a strange occurrence - it is mostly flat and no cat managed to get in the picture...only because my machine is busy with an embroidery that they are babysitting  :-)

My daughter Mary was kindly one of my testers, this is her Easy 7 [copyright Denise Bevard 2012-all rights reserved], hoping to get the pattern on the shelf soon. This was her first shot at machine quilting.
